About
In 2013 Mark, along with fellow expedition members Andy Tyson, Molly Tyson, Eric Daft, Chris Nance and Myanmar climbers Po Pin and Win Ko Ko embarked on the Myanmar-American Friendship expedition to make a first ascent of Gamlang Razi. In addition to climbing the peak the team used a highly accurate GPS device to measure the summit elevation and attempt to solve one of the last great climbing mysteries as to whether Gamlang Razi or Khakabo Razi is the highest mountain in Southeast Asia. The team traveled where no team had gone before, enduring over 175 miles of difficult travel through some of the harshest and most remote jungle on the planet, just to reach base camp. In this image, expedition leader Andy Tyson scouts the lower sections of the glacier at the base of Gamlang Razi before their successful ascent.
