Location: Mt. Everest, Nepal
Date: 2025
Project: Undisclosed Everest climb for a major streaming platform
Behind the Shot:
With a drone launched from the Everest South Side Base Camp at around 17k feet, we were able to fly clear up to the summit altitude of Everest! With some custom firmware unlocks and official drone permits from the Nepalese government, the only obstacles in the way of this shot were battery life and atmospheric conditions. Every evening, with a clear enough sky above and with minimal helicopter traffic, the drones went skyward. Some of the best shots of the trip were from the comfort of base camp. Although we didn’t get a lot of time up at that altitude before having to use some of the battery life to make a controlled descent, this shot was part of a larger panorama, comprised of nearly 80 photos all stitched together in Adobe Lightroom.
It’s a lot of hard work filming on Everest, but glimpses like this, of the highest mountains of the world, stoked the fire and made the hard parts of the project that much more enjoyable.
