Mission Green
Our planet is in peril: Record-breaking heat, drought, and wildfires; unprecedented ocean temps; lost sea ice. We are careening toward a point of no return. Urgent action is needed.
One of our greatest hopes lies in plain sight – trees.
Yet half the world’s forests have disappeared in the last 70 years.
EARTH’S SURVIVAL DEPENDS ON FORESTS. THIS PROJECT IS DRIVEN BY A WOMAN WHO KNOWS THE STAKES, HAS SOLUTIONS, AND HAS CLIMBED TO EXTREME HEIGHTS TO GET US TO ACT NOW, BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE.

HELP US DRIVE GLOBAL ACTION.
“Bravo, Meg Lowman, for launching Mission Green, thereby inspiring others to understand and know why we must take care of the natural world as if our lives depend on it. Because they do.””
MEET MEG LOWMAN
One of the world’s foremost forest experts and conservationists, groundbreaking scientist Dr. “Canopy Meg” Lowman has spent her life high in the treetops, seeing the world in a way few others have. Her pioneering research has revolutionized our understanding of forests, uncovering the vital role of forest canopies as an “eighth continent” home to 50% of all terrestrial species.
Her work has demonstrated the immense stakes of ongoing global forest losses, from massive species extinctions to the multitude of irreplaceable benefits forests provide life on Earth, including oxygen production, climate regulation, carbon storage, clean water, and materials for food, medicine, clothing, and construction.
Because these losses represent a potential death sentence for humanity, Meg’s unwavering focus today is advancing bold solutions through the Mission Green initiative – the culmination of her pioneering career and a mission critical call-to-action for us all.
WHAT IS MISSION GREEN?
The Mission Green initiative, led by Dr. Meg Lowman, is a global effort to promote forest conservation. It works to protect the world’s most critical, highest biodiversity forest "hot spots" through innovative tree canopy projects that combine ecotourism, research, education, and sustainable development. Its current focus involves twelve hot spots on four continents.
Fisher Creative, a Mission Green initiative partner, is leading a multimedia storytelling project centered around a feature-length documentary (also called Mission Green) to amplify the initiative’s impact.
Mission Green (the film) is Planet Earth meets Hidden Figures meets An Inconvenient Truth – a visually stunning exploration of treetop biodiversity paired with Dr. Meg Lowman’s inspiring, barrier-breaking story and an urgent environmental warning with actionable solutions.
Supporting content includes
Immersive 360-experiences to explore the canopies of forest hot spots.
Educational programming and curriculum for students worldwide.
Print and digital media content to amplify global reach and impact.
The film follows Dr. “Canopy Meg” Lowman – a pioneering “arbornaut,” the “real-life Lorax,” and one of the world’s most influential scientists and educators. Combining Meg’s inspiring trailblazing story with breathtaking treetop natural history, the film explores her fight to protect forests and biodiversity, empower Indigenous groups, and promote diversity in science through her legacy effort: the Mission Green initiative. Notable figures such as Bob Ballard, Sylvia Earle, and Wade Davis add powerful voices to this urgent environmental story.
“It is like triage in a hospital emergency room. We must focus on saving the areas that make the biggest global difference.”
GROWING ROOTS OF CHANGE
This project is a call-to-action to protect Earth’s life-sustaining forests while there’s still time.
Support for the COP 30 effort will amplify the Mission Green initiative on a global stage, catalyzing action to protect forests and secure a sustainable future. It will also act as seed funding for the larger Mission Green multimedia project, inspiring millions worldwide through storytelling and education.
